*The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend both seasonal influenza and swine (H1N1) flu shots for vulnerable population groups including senior citizens, children, parents of small children, caregivers and healthcare workers.
Fall Hospice Volunteer Training
Hospice volunteers visit terminally ill clients who have elected to spend their final days in their own homes with the assistance of the VNA. Volunteers provide comfort and support to both patients and their caregivers and this training program prepares volunteers for this rewarding work. Free training sessions will be held at the VNA headquarters on:

- All day Saturday, October 2, 2010
- Monday evening, October 4, 2010

FREE Caregiver Education & Support
The VNANNJ In-Home Caregiver Education and Support Program provides FREE in-home
education and support to unpaid caregivers so they may improve their ability
and effectiveness as caregivers. There are no income or asset eligibility requirements
for this program.
Specifically, the program will provide:

A registered nurse will meet with the caregiver at their home to conduct
an initial assessment and to set up a teaching plan that will help to relieve
caregiver stress and increase caregiver effectiveness.

In-home instruction to enable caregivers to identify the skills needed to provide proper care,
including lifting and transferring, bathing, personal care, nutrition, disease
education, stress management, and accessing community resources.

Up to five professional home visits by a registered nurse, physical, speech
or occupational therapist, social worker or nutritionist to provide educational
and support services, including stress management.
The VNANNJ In-Home Caregiver Education and Support Program is made possible
through a grant received by the Morris County Department of Human Services,

Hospice
Hospice volunteers visit terminally-ill people who have elected to spend their final days in their own homes with the assistance of VNANNJ. Volunteers provide comfort, companionship and support to both patients and their loved ones.
A 16-hour training program prepares volunteers for this rewarding work. Free training sessions are held at VNANNJ headquarters quarterly. The next course is scheduled for summer, 2010. Two courses per year are scheduled to accommodate working schedules and run in the evenings. Two courses per year are scheduled to run during weekday business hours. Please let us know which schedule works best for you.
Friendship House
Friendship House, VNANNJ’s adult day care center, welcomes volunteers who can provide two or more hours a week to assist with activities and snacks. No formal training is required. The center is located in Boonton and its hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. weekdays.
House Call Groceries for Seniors
Program volunteers are asked to shop weekly or biweekly for homebound elderly clients. By performing this simple but essential task, you can assist an elderly neighbor for whom shopping has become a difficult chore.
