Statewide Respite Care Program*
Those who unselfishly take on the role of primary caregiver for a sick or injured spouse, aging parent or other loved one who requires constant assistance and supervision too often neglect their own emotional, physical and spiritual needs. Even the most loving and devoted caregiver needs a respite and when one is not available, caregivers become susceptible to feelings of isolation and depression and stress-related physical illnesses.
The Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey (VNA) participates in the Statewide Respite Care Program which provides assistance (as limited and defined by the program's guidelines), to caregivers who need a break from the daily responsibility of caring for aging parents or any other sick, disabled or aged family member or friend. The respite services can be used by caregivers to secure time for a variety of activities including personal errands, shopping, medical care, vacation or a personal or family emergency.
According to the program's guidelines, the services provided may include certified home health assistance, limited RN or LPN support, out-of-home care in a structured social or health-related adult day program, short-term live-in service or short-term in-patient care in a licensed medical facility, nursing home or assisted living facility. * These services are made possible through grants received from the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, County of Morris Office on Aging and the United Way of Morris County. Eligibility requirements may apply. |
