A volunteer's job is a rewarding and worthwhile commitment and offers an opportunity for personal growth and service to the community. Volunteer opportunities are always available at Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey and there is no set amount of time required since there are programs to accommodate every volunteer's available time and special talents. Every hour you can give helps.

The House Call Groceries for Seniors is a unique program providing critical grocery shopping services for homebound elderly residents of the greater Morris area. Our caring volunteers take on the tasks of grocery shopping and assist with putting the groceries away. This unique program provides seniors with the opportunity to remain in their own home and maintain their independence.

Friendship House

Friendship House is an adult day care center operated by VNANNJ in the greater Morris County area of New Jersey. It has been specifically designed as a warm and caring environment for adults who need daytime health care and supervision due to conditions including Alzheimer's disease, related dementia, chronic illness, incontinence or stroke. Friendship House adult day care promotes continued independence for older adults, fosters peer interaction, offers support and relief to caregivers, and can delay the need for long-term residential care.

Our Friendship House volunteers are on-site and interact directly with the participants. These volunteers receive appropriate orientation to ensure that they are confident and effective in the support they provide to the program's members. With the help of its volunteers, our Friendship House adult day care program enhances the quality of life for those we serve through a caring, stimulating, therapeutic and safe environment.

Hospice care is a life-affirming process that affords participants the best possible quality of life, with a focus on comfort, support and dignity. The involvement of a hospice care volunteer has a great impact on the patient and on the family trying to cope with loss. The volunteer is someone who chooses to be present as a companion for this experience and the rewards are lasting and truly priceless.

One hospice volunteer said, "I am overwhelmed with how easy it is to connect…I know I am getting far more than I give!"

Why volunteer for hospice care? This volunteer opportunity is both rewarding and demanding, and offers an opportunity for personal growth.

Our hospice care interdisciplinary team provides a free Hospice Education Training for all volunteers in order to provide a strong understanding of the hospice philosophy. Topics include care and comfort measures, psychosocial and spiritual dynamics and strong listening skills.
