Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers have played an integral role in the success of the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey (VNA) throughout its long and distinguished history. You can carry on that tradition and experience the personal satisfaction of helping others who are homebound due to a serious illness, disability or advanced age. If you can spare as little as two hours a week, you may be an excellent candidate for one of the following volunteer assignments:

Hospice
Hospice volunteers assist in providing terminally-ill patients and their families with practical and emotional support. A sixteen (16) hour training program explains the philosophy of hospice and prepares volunteers for this rewarding work. Training programs for hospice volunteers are run throughout the year. The next training session is scheduled as follows:

Friday, March 9th from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 10th from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and
Monday, March 12th from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If you cannot attend a portion of this training schedule, we will work with you on alternative arrangements. Upon completion of the training, hospice volunteers are paired with clients in their hometown and neighboring communities. House Call Groceries for Seniors
The House Call Groceries for Seniors program provides assistance to elderly, homebound residents of Morris County. Volunteers are asked to shop about once a week based upon client needs. By performing this simple but essential task, you can make a difference for an elderly neighbor for whom shopping has become a difficult chore and, in the process, also provide a senior citizen with a break from the isolation of being homebound. Friendship House
The VNA's adult day care center, Friendship House, provides a warm and caring environment for seniors with Alzheimer's and other conditions that result in mild to moderate cognitive impairment and/or physical challenges. Friendship House welcomes volunteers who can provide two or more hours a week to assist with activities and snacks. No formal training is required. The center is in located in Boonton and its hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays. Clerical Support
Various departments located at our friendly, team-oriented headquarters in downtown Morristown are in need of clerical assistance with a variety of projects.

All volunteers must be age 18 or older and possess good communication skills. Flexible schedules are available, so these opportunities are suitable for homemakers, business professionals, retirees and students. VNA is unable to provide transportation, so a car and a valid driver's license are also necessary. For the safety of its clients, VNA conducts criminal background checks.   Please click here to learn more about volunteer opportunities or contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (973) 451-4128.
