How to Choose a Home Health Care Agency
What Are Some of the Most Important Things People Should Consider When Choosing a Provider?
- Licensing & Accreditation — Confirm your selected agency holds a valid state license and accreditation from recognized organizations; this ensures they meet strict nursing and healthcare standards. VNA is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and is a nationally recognized Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP) provider.
- Individual Credentials & Supervision — Verify that aides and licensed nurses hold up-to-date certifications, background checks, and health screenings, and that a registered nurse supervises all skilled services.
- Range of Services — Look for an agency that can provide everything from personal care and homemaking to physical therapy and hospice support, so your care plan can evolve without changing providers.
- Staff Training & Quality Monitoring — Ensure continuous education programs are in place so aides remain skilled in the latest best practices. Ask about how the agency tracks quality and handles client feedback.
- Cost & Insurance Coverage — Understand which services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance, and request a clear breakdown of any out-of-pocket expenses.
- Care Plan Customization — A reputable agency will involve you in setting goals and tailoring your care plan—whether you need short-term rehab support or long-term assistance.
- Communication & Accessibility — Choose a provider that offers 24/7 on-call support and easy access to care coordinators, so you’re never left waiting when you need help.
